I started my marketing journey back in 2014. After graduating from university with a Bachelor of Arts degree, I became a freelance illustrator & graphic designer. Working with a variety of local start up businesses, my main focus was in creating brands and graphic visuals across many different industries.

I then progressed into an advanced graphic designer role for a national wine merchant based in Northern Ireland (The Guiness was amazing!) My skills in graphic design really excelled in this role by moving further into the designing of point of sale, large events and exhibition designs, it was a great experience - I even met John Torode!

After a year in Northern Ireland I moved back to the UK and began a marketing executive role based in Shropshire. Here I became much more in tune with various marketing platforms, and excelled in brand management, as well as building marketing strategies for a large customer base. I was in this role for nearly 3 years and progressed to become the UK Marketing Manager. The position however had become very restrictive in terms of implementing creative ideas, it was more frustrating and time consuming to get approval on marketing campaigns. I eventually began to lose my passion for the role, and missed what I love doing the most ‘being creative!’

I went on to become a Creative Director for a local marketing agency based in Shrewsbury. In this role my journey into web design really flourished. Being only a small company with two members of staff, I took on the entire management of web design for all customers. This is where my skills in Squarespace web design began.

It was a huge role, and I really learnt a lot about myself too. I became more confident, more driven and totally dedicated to wanting to help businesses succeed. I had reached the point where I had learned all I could within the role, and so I decided it was time to finally take the next step…

After 6+ years of working for companies & agencies I decided I wanted to take the leap & create my own design company. I wanted to create much more effective content with a creative edge, starting right from the beginning of a customer journey and taking them straight through to real conversions. Nowadays there is such a fine line between sales and marketing, and without a seriously efficient website, many businesses will struggle to achieve their maximum growth. So thats where (hopefully) I can come in to help!

So I set up Genius Marketing in 2020 (yes in the middle of a global pandemic!) Based in Shropshire, and of course virtually anywhere. Genius Marketing grew extremely well in the first 12 months and I found myself creating more and more websites for customers including improving existing websites, as-well as helping clients to implement best practices for SEO and driving traffic to their sites.

Now over 18 months on I rebranded my business as ‘The Square Genius’ I still offer the same services, but now with a much more advanced focus on web design and Squarespace websites in particular. With 8 years experience in building Squarespace websites I have now taken the opportunity to offer customers a DIY solution to web design as well as still offering bespoke web design services. Hiring a designer can be costly and there’s also the lack of control when someone else manages your entire website, so this why I have implemented a new template shop which offers custom made Squarespace website templates fully designed by myself. These are easy to install and manage and each one comes with a tutorial guide on how to customise your website.

It is my vision for The Square Genius to provide clients with a fresh and creative approach to Squarespace web design solutions. With carefully planned strategies and creativity, clients will experience unparalleled online success at affordable prices!
